Is Buck Island Floating Away?

By Cindy @ MyStCroix.VI

buckisland-floatingIn an alarming study by a joint venture between the National Service of Parks and NOOA, scientists have discovered that St Croix’s beloved Buck Island is floating away from the main island’s shores at a rate of 10 feet per year. This trend was first discovered by sea turtle watch volunteers when they noticed their daily trip out to the island took a bit longer each summer. They also noticed that some sea turtles, exhausted by the trek out to their nesting grounds on the shore of Buck Island were turning around half-way and instead lounging back at a local hotel. Stated park service official Sandy Storm “At this rate, Buck Island will be an attraction on St Thomas by 2075. They take everything away from St Croix.”

Further studies are being conducted on how to keep Buck Island happy and secure in her current position. “Worst case, we’ll start nailing down moorings to the coral heads and attaching them to the palm trees to prevent her from leaving us.” stated local tour operator Captain Ron.

We’ll keep you up to date on this breaking April Fools situation.
